Overview

What to Expect

The Blue Mountains are the longest mountain range in Jamaica, and the highest point is the Blue Mountain Peak, with 7402 ft (2256 m); with clear skies, you can see as far as Cuba. They are called the Blue Mountains because the peaks are mostly covered with fog, and especially in the morning, they shimmer bluish.

The landscape of the Blue Mountains is breathtaking. Everything is green and lush, full of ferns, eucalyptus, colorful wildflowers, and the Jamaica bamboo, which actually blooms only every 33 years. An absolute hiker's paradise. About 30 trails to choose from, the most popular being the “Peak Trail,” which goes up to Blue Mountain Peak. There are also sunrise and sunset hikes and fantastic bike rides. Be sure to book a tour and don't hike on your own because not all trails are in good condition, and there are a lot of forks. The rescue if needed takes a very long time.

The Blue Mountains are also the home of the famous Blue Mountain coffee. A pound (0.45 kg) can cost up to $50 and more. This is due to the long ripening period, the low yield, the challenging conditions during harvesting, and, of course, the extraordinary aroma.

Each of the different tours through the Blue Mountains is brilliant. No wonder the Blue Mountains are one of the absolute highlights in Jamaica. The lush nature and the silence give you strength and peace. The many animals and plants are absolutely unique and fascinating. You completely forget time and stress here.

When it rains, excursions into nature are usually a little less beautiful. In the high season (Dec–Apr), definitely book online in advance. There is a perfect tour for every fitness level, whether climbing or e-bikes, you will absolutely find the right one for you. The tours always involve trails on foot and are unfortunately not accessible for strollers or wheelchairs.

How to Get There

Organized Tour

Sit back, relax and let your accommodation pick you up and bring you back. It doesn't get any more relaxed or safe than this. Plus, with organized tours, you'll have the driver and a guide with you and won't have to worry about anything.

Self-Organized

Unfortunately, there is no connection with public transportation. Therefore, you need either a driver or a rental car. The roads and paths are rather off-road and especially after rain you have to be careful. Therefore, book a car with four-wheel drive.
